Tea Check-In: Collaborate

Writer: noralynnbclarknoralynnbclark

Popping in for a quick afternoon tea check-in since I hit the ground running this morning with some projects and meetings.

Yesterday was a frustrating day - you know, one of those where everything starts great, but then each task on your to-do list ends up being a hassle than it should be and/or just crashes and burns? Yup. That was my day, and I was exhausted by 2 p.m.

Today I'm exhausted, but luckily it's closer to 5 p.m., and I've accomplished much more than planned. I'm so incredibly grateful for that, but I also have to recognize that it's because I didn't necessarily give up yesterday. Instead, I redirected my energy into strategic analysis and collaboration to set myself up for success for the few days left in the week.

Asking for help, guidance, and collaboration when it feels like the world is working against you can truly be a breath of fresh air. Many of us often admit that we don't ask for help enough or even too late; I've been working on it personally and professionally for a long time. I've always been very independent, yet I thrive on community and collaboration. My Endometriosis diagnosis was the start of breaking down my walls and asking for more help in my personal life, and that quickly became the case in my professional life as well. Balancing a chronic illness along with navigating my ADHD in conjunction with a personal and professional life? Yeah, help was definitely needed. And it's something I try to be open about as often as possible,

So this is more of a reminder to yourself to ask for help. You don't always have to go it alone.

It's also an appreciation post to all the wonderful friends who have supported me since my layoff with phone calls, texts, DM's, job postings, Zoom/Google Meets, WhatsApp messages and calls, tweets, comments...all the communication tools that have been utilized. I'd be a hell of a lot more tired and stressed without your encouragement, support, chats, collaborations, compliments, and the wonderful laughs that have been provided as well. There are so many of you, and I hope each of you knows how much it's meant to me, and I plan to extend that kindness and karma back into the world as soon as possible. I can't finish this without recognizing my incredible husband and family's constant foundation of communication, support, encouragement, and love. I'm so tired at the start of this month, month three of this journey, but my heart is full, and my cup isn't empty, so thank you all ❤️️

My husband usually has an afternoon cup of tea and/or espresso, but since I'm so sensitive to caffeine and can do a better job hydrating (and it's hotter than hades here), I usually stick with water or a carbonated water drink. We had a nice little afternoon storm, though, so a nice cup of Peppermint Herbal Tea from Trader Joe's seemed like a nice idea. I like to add some frothed milk with the FourSigmatic Think creamer to my tea as well when I need a little mental boost, but mostly I love the creaminess that the milk adds to tea.

Time to put the earbuds back in and get back to work before calling it quits for the day - we're almost to Friday, y'all!
